Everything has changed, yet nothing has

This week I wrapped up the last bits remaining for moving my site. “But it’s still here!”, you may ask. Well I moved my web hosting and domain providers this week. The site is still the same (infrequent updates and all). I am trying out DigitalOcean as a VPS provider. Their packages (and better control of my server) are what pulled me towards them and there are no complaints so far.

Keen observers may have also noticed that my site is now HTTPS only. I’ve been curious about trying out SSL for a long time and I took this opportunity to try it out. The hands-on approach has helped me understand about certificate signing and certificate trust stores. I also took the time to learn how to create certificate authorities to sign my certificates and create certificate chains. In fact I’ve started signing my own certificates for all my personal uses like my GitLab installation (seen on the right). It feels awesome to see a site verified by oneself. 🙂

Well, I don’t want to drag this update any longer. Have a good one!
